By now you will know that last Friday we both took the day off work, walked into the town centre and got married in a private ceremony. All family members were sent announcements in the post – we hope you all got them OK! We are sorry that you couldn’t come, but ‘traditional’ weddings with all the trimmings just aren’t our cup of tea. We don’t like fuss and fluff so we wanted our wedding to be as small, relaxed and as intimate as possible. We had the perfect day for us and wouldn’t have had it any other way!

WHAT WE DID

Our ceremony took place at Leicester Town Hall at 11am. After a McDonald’s breakfast we met our two witnesses in Town Hall Square at 10.50am and in we went. Afterwards we went for tea, macaroons and cake at Mrs Bridges Tea Rooms. We then moved onto The Globe for Pictionary and champagne.

WHO WAS THERE

For a civil ceremony you need two witnesses, so we asked our friends Kate and Lee to come along with their baby, Holly. Kate has been Leah’s best friend for 16 years, and Leah recently became Holly’s godmother.

Why we did it

We wanted our day to be about us and our relationship, not about material things, decorations, fancy outfits and outdated traditions. What we got instead was a personal, fun and happy day completely free of stress and fuss. We didn’t even plan what we did after the ceremony, we just decided on the day!

As it was such an intimate and small occasion we chose not to have a photographer with us for the actual wedding, so we passed Leah’s iPhone 5s around. We then had a visit from our lovely friend Ali who came with us to Bradgate Park for a gorgeous portrait session.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for understanding why we chose to get married privately and for respecting our wishes, and to those of you who have supported us in our relationship over the past five years!
